01 / Who this is for
Brainis vs Asana
You run Asana today and are deciding whether Brainis replaces it, joins it, or isn’t for you. The honest answer is below — including the part where Asana wins.
Asana is very good at what it is for. This page is about whether what it is for is what you need.
02Category difference
Asana is a work-management tool. Brainis is a company system.
Asana's job — projects, tasks, portfolios, workload — maps to Work AI inside Brainis. The difference is not the feature list on that one square. It is that in Brainis the square sits inside a loop: the company's live state suggests the decision, the decision compiles into the work, an independent check confirms the work, and the measured outcome changes the next decision. Asana holds the work. Brainis holds the reason the work exists.
Asana is a work-management tool. Asana’s job maps to Work AI, inside the loop.
03When Asana is enough
Stay on Asana if this is you.
This section is not a set-up. If one of these describes your company, Asana is the better buy and we would rather you knew that here.
Your hard problem is coordination, not deciding
When everyone already knows what to build and the pain is who-has-what-by-when, Asana's portfolios, workload view, and rules are a mature, well-designed answer. Buying a decision system to solve a scheduling problem is overpaying.
One team, one workflow, fast adoption
Most knowledge workers have used Asana before. You can get a team productive in an afternoon, without a change-management project. Brainis asks more of you up front because it is modelling your company, not your task list.
You already have systems of record you like
If customers live in a CRM you trust, money lives in a ledger your accountant likes, and people live in an HRIS that works, adding another system of record is a cost, not a feature.
You want a tool, not a system with opinions
Asana stays a tool on purpose. It will never tell you your pricing is the constraint. If that is what you want from software, that is a legitimate thing to want, and Asana is better at it than we are.
04When you need the loop
What Brainis adds, and the mechanism that adds it.
Each of these names the part of the system doing the work — state, missions, Verify, autonomy — and links the page that proves it.
When the question is what to do next, not who is doing what
A board can show you every task and still not tell you which of three roadmaps to fund. The Strategy Engine models the alternatives against your live state before recommending one, and shows what changes when you change a constraint.
C-021See Strategy Engine →When a plan has to arrive with acceptance criteria attached
A task says what to do. A mission says what done means: outcome, owner, budget, acceptance criteria, and the dependencies between them — compiled from the decision that justified it.
C-022See Missions →When AI is doing the work, not suggesting it
The moment an agent is writing the migration, drafting the release note, or updating the record, something other than that agent has to check the result. Verify rejects work that misses its acceptance criteria.
C-025See Verify →When you want machines to act inside limits you set
Autonomy is chosen per domain and enforced by an authority contract that scopes what may happen without you — with rollback and a full audit trail behind every act.

05Side by side
Grouped by what the loop actually does.
Verifiable capabilities only. The Asana column describes what Asana does; it never asserts a limitation we have not checked. Where Asana is better, the row says so.
Understand
What the system knows about your company.
A single live model of the company — goals, customers, money, commitments
Asana
Projects, tasks, goals, and portfolios — Asana's own domain, and it holds it well. Customers, cash, and headcount live in your other tools.
Brainis
One live model, every fact carrying its source, its freshness, and a confidence score.

Work management as a product surface
Asana
Asana's core: boards, lists, timelines, workload, portfolios, forms, and rules. Mature and widely adopted.
Brainis
Work AI covers the same ground natively — projects, tasks, sprints — as one of the real products agents operate.

Decide
How the next move gets chosen.
Alternative futures modelled before a path is recommended
Asana
Outside what a work-management tool is for. Asana reports on the work; it does not model business alternatives.
Brainis
The Strategy Engine models the options first; change a constraint and the recommendation changes.

How goals connect to work
Asana
Goals link to portfolios and projects and roll up progress — a genuinely good structure, shipping today.
Asana is better here
Brainis
Objectives are decided against modelled futures, then compiled downward into missions rather than linked to work that already exists.
C-022See Missions →
Deliver
How the work actually gets done.
How an approved plan becomes work
Asana
You create the tasks — from a template, a rule, a form, or by hand. Asana runs the plan you already made.
Brainis
Approved strategy compiles into dependency-aware missions with owners, budgets, and acceptance criteria.

Where the AI does its work
Asana
Asana Intelligence assists a person working in Asana: summaries, smart fields, drafting. The person still does the work.
Brainis
Inside the real products — the CRM, the ATS, work management, campaigns — through governed MCP tool calls.

Asana
Rules act inside Asana on Asana objects, under the permissions of the person who built the rule.
Brainis
Authority contracts scope every act by action, domain, value, risk, reversibility, time, and owner.
C-033See Autonomy →
One governance ladder
Asana
Tasks, subtasks, and projects nest freely — flexible, and up to you to keep coherent.
Brainis
One ladder, deliberately: a mission may contain tasks, and tasks never spawn governance of their own.

Verify
What has to be true before it counts as done.
An independent check before work counts as done
Asana
Outside what a work-management tool is for. In Asana, a task is done when a person marks it done.
Brainis
Independent quality agents check each deliverable against its acceptance criteria — and can reject it.

Who grades the work
Asana
Outside what a work-management tool is for. In Asana, a task is done when a person marks it done.
Brainis
Never the agent that produced it. High-risk work is checked by a different model family.

Your own standards as checks
Asana
Outside what a work-management tool is for. In Asana, a task is done when a person marks it done.
Brainis
Acceptance criteria you write become Verify checks — authored once, composed into libraries, enforced per domain.
C-043See Verify →
How a finished deliverable reaches you
Asana
Outside what a work-management tool is for — Asana carries the task, not the artifact review.

Learn
What the outcome changes.
What happens to a decision after it is made
Asana
Reporting dashboards show what happened. Comparing it to what anyone predicted is not something Asana does.
Brainis
Predicted and actual outcomes land in the Decision Ledger and change the next recommendation.
C-027See Memory →
Whether the forecast was any good
Asana
Reporting dashboards show what happened. Comparing it to what anyone predicted is not something Asana does.
Brainis
Predictions carry a range and a model version, and are preserved unchanged when reality arrives.

06Coexistence & migration
Running both is the expected path, not a failure.
- Connector depth today
- There is no Asana connector in the live catalog today. We would rather say that here than after you have signed up. What connects today is communication, calendar and email, data warehouses, and AI providers — the catalog is public and states each connector's status.See Integrations →
- What imports
- Tasks move by CSV with field mapping, using the same importer the product ships for work items. Projects, assignees, and dates come across; comments, attachments, and rules do not.
- What stays in Asana
- Asana stays where it is. Nothing about starting on Brainis requires you to turn it off, and running both while you decide is the expected path, not a failure mode.
- Leaving whenever you want
- Your data stays yours: Brainis exports through the admin data wizard, and hitting zero AI credits never locks your data or your non-AI workflows.C-032See Pricing →
07Pricing
What each of you is charging for.
Asana publishes per-seat tiers: every person who touches it is billed, whether they run a project or read one. Brainis prices capacity instead — the plan sets a seat band, a connector count, concurrency, and an autonomy ceiling, and AI credits pay for the work agents actually do. Seats above the band are still charged per seat, so this is a different shape, not a free lunch. Whether it is cheaper for you depends on headcount and on how much work you hand to agents; the full matrix, including where Brainis costs more, is on the pricing page.
Brainis is free to start, paid plans from $29 a month. See Pricing →
